Carolyn Tu is a volunteer HIV Counselor at the Clinic. About three and a half years ago, she heard about the Clinic from a friend who was a volunteer, and Carolyn has been working here ever since. She started out as a Client Service Coordinator and has moved on to become a Health Educator working more directly with clients. Ultimately, she trained to be an HIV Counselor providing confidential, rapid HIV risk assessment, testing, and counseling. Carolyn returns happily to the Clinic each week for her shift because she is inspired by the courage of her clients, and she loves getting the chance to spend one-on-one time with each woman. She also enjoys working with the Clinic staff and volunteers, “they are some of the most wonderful, kind-hearted, and awesome women I have ever met!” Eventually, Carolyn hopes to go to medical school and return to volunteer work as a clinician.
