Acting upon a life-long interest in women’s health, Katie Joy Alsup was involved with the birthing/doula scene but wanted to work with women on a broader scope of women’s health issues. At the Clinic she began as a Client Services Coordinator and moved on to work as a Health Educator and Pregnancy Counselor. Through these roles at the Clinic, Katie Joy learned about the Outreach Program and was excited about the opportunity to learn from a group of women coming from a new perspective. Katie Joy loves the Clinic because it allows her to be around inspiring women—the volunteers, staff, and clients—in a supportive environment. Her time at the Clinic has allowed her to practice a bottom-up approach to health care, where the client’s needs are understood and respected. Outside of the Clinic Katie Joy likes cooking, crafting, and generally being domestic in her little house on a hill with a view.
