Women’s Community Clinic Celebrates Grand Opening of new Fillmore St. Location
Clinic doubles its space and adds new programs
SAN FRANCISCO (May 19, 2011) - The Women’s Community Clinic celebrated the Grand Opening of their new Fillmore St. location last week, filling what Clinic officials say is an unmet health care need in the area. The Clinic, which had been operating on Hayes Street since 1999, provides free health care, outreach services and health career training programs to uninsured Bay Area women and girls.
The Fillmore St. clinic has been open since March 21, but May 12 was the official grand opening. The Women’s Community Clinic marked the occasion with an event featuring clinic tours, food and wine. More than 200 supporters, elected officials, and health care leaders joined in the celebration.
Staffers say the Clinic, located at 1833 Fillmore St. (between Bush & Sutter,) has been busy since opening their doors in March. The new space provides twice as many exam rooms as the former location allowing the Clinic to serve twice as many patients. The new space also allows the Clinic to add additional services such as mental health counseling and prenatal care.
“We had outgrown our previous location years ago,” said Carlina Hansen, Executive Director of the Women’s Community Clinic. “Our Fillmore St. clinic is much more accessible via public transportation to women from all over the Bay Area and we are thrilled to be in the Western Addition, a historically underserved neighborhood.”
The grand opening event was well attended, and many supporters and elected officials came away impressed.
